"The tiny charter school occupies a former Catholic school and church built in 1863 in Cincinnati's West End. On either side of it are shuttered school buildings, boarded-up homes and empty lots. But inside King, 135 plaid-uniformed children learn in small classrooms. A former chapel houses two classes separated by a divider under a high, arched ceiling and stained glass windows.
